Multiplying Our Talents: A Charge for Our NEW Faculty and Staff

This morning, I had the distinct honor of leading our new faculty and staff in a session. I gave them the “Being New Charge.” Reflecting on the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25:14-30, we explored how Jesus’ teaching can inspire our approach to education. In this parable, Jesus emphasizes the importance of using our God-given talents to their fullest potential, rather than hiding them away out of fear.

To bring this message to life, I asked everyone to turn to a partner and share a personal talent. The room was soon filled with stories of various gifts and abilities. We then shared with the entire group.

Our message to new employees is clear: we hired you because of your unique talents, and we want you to bring them to bear now. Don’t wait until the end of May to barely move the trash can. Be bold, be innovative, and make an impact from the start. Education desperately needs innovators, and we believe you are the key to meeting this need.

At the same time, it’s important for new staff to honor the heavy lifting done by those who’ve been here. Recognizing the contributions and wisdom of long-standing colleagues is essential in creating a collaborative environment. Schools must balance maintaining time-tested traditions with embracing necessary changes to meet the needs of this generation of learners.

As we embark on a new school year, we are committed to using our talents to glorify God and enrich the lives of our students. What will you do today to make a difference with your unique gifts?

I can’t wait to see the incredible innovations and growth that will come from this talented and dedicated team.
