1:1 Chromebook Program
Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, the Middle School piloted a 1:1 Chromebook program for students in Grades 5-8.
The Chromebook was chosen for its light weight, durability, low price point, ability to start up in seconds, built-in virus protection, access to the collaborative tools of Google Apps, access to thousands of Chrome apps, and its ability to automatically back up students’ work to the cloud. Additionally, in every classroom, students and teachers utilize interactive technology in the form of ClearTouches, iPads, 3-D printers, and a small fleet of aerial drones. Other applications of technology in the classroom include video conferences with external experts, coding, and publishing works via Digication eportfolios.
Google Drive
Students can store and access their data anywhere through the cloud (at home, school, or on their mobile device) allowing them to document their learning through the use of e-portfolios.
Google Apps for Education
Greater collaboration is fostered as students share documents, presentations, spreadsheets, forms, drawings, and folders, as well as remotely give and receive feedback from teachers and peers.
Online Textbooks
Most textbooks will be web-based, making backpacks much lighter to carry.
Low Price-Point
At $360, Chromebooks purchased through Mount Vernon are covered under warranty for 3 years, while replacing the cost of most textbooks.
Hapara Teacher Dashboard
Allows teachers to maximize classroom management and security by giving them control and monitoring capabilities for all student devices in the room.
Support
For damaged or broken Chromebooks, please email support@mountvernonschool.org with a detailed description of the problem. The School will loan Chromebooks to students while the damaged laptop is repaired or replaced.
